Remote in Arlington, July 2014

30th July, 2014. By Raylene Boots

Dinosaur Studios just spent a week in Arlington, Va at the Software Engineering Institute capturing a course on cyber terrorism, malicious cyber hacking, etc… We travel with a complete state-of-the-art High Definition portable studio, using the newest technology like the Tricaster switcher with virtual sets, 3 remote controlled high def cameras, powerpoint and document cameras, and complete audio system to capture up to 35 people speaking. All captured to arrays of hard drives and run by ONE person – me.
The general public would be alarmed at how many attacks are thwarted on a daily basis by Homeland Security and other governmental entities. This class focused on training to detect these attacks and prevent them before they happen. Capturing these classes saves the taxpayers a lot of money…the entire class, including overheads, PowerPoints, handouts, etc, are available to others online, eliminating the need for the government to pay for the class to be presented live again.

Lake Erie wedding

28th October, 2010. By Raylene Boots

Location, location, location. There are a lot of details for a wedding to be considered, but the location is one of the first things one should consider, after choosing the date. For Tabitha and Matt, location played a huge role in the success of their outdoor wedding. They were married near Lake Erie, and the view during the ceremony was only matched by the gorgeous sunset hours later.

Weather can be unpredictable, so couples must consider a back-up plan. For our outdoor wedding in late fall 1990, we booked a church “just in case” – but the weather cooperated. We had a 75 degree day, more than warm enough for the stringed quartet. Did you know there is a minimum temperature or musicians cannot tune their instruments? Consider this when planning an outdoor event with live music. But when possible, outdoor weddings can be breathtaking, as this one was.

For Tabitha and Matt, part of preparing for the weather included providing each lady guest with a beautiful scarf, as you can see in the photos below. The purple Pashmina 100% silk scarf kept me warm when the evening cooled. Some other scarf colors were ivory and pale blue. At another family wedding a few weeks later, I wore the scarf again. Thank you Tabitha!

Groom’s Cake

10th October, 2010. By Raylene Boots

July 24, 2010 was the wedding of Samantha and Michael. Their reception was at the Cathedral in New Castle, a beautiful historic site you can view at www.cathedralnewcastle.com. I loved the groom’s cake they incorporated in the Ballroom, just off of the Main Dining Room. The cookie table itself was impressive, but what made it unique is found at the center of the long, traditional cookie tables. Check out these photos of this groom’s cake, crowned with a very personal cake topper. Click on each to see details. Surrounding the cake are chocolate cookies, petits fours, and candies, and especially tasty was the blend of nuts and pretzels coated with caramel and chocolate.samantha and michaels toppersamantha and michaels cookiessamantha and michaels cookie table

So when you are planning your cookie table, go for something unique and include the groom’s cake. We have seen sports fan themes, even an X-Box cake shown here.pj and jessica xbox cake

Another remarkable cookie table was at the wedding of Rebecca and Scott. The Main Dining Room at the Cathedral had a long cookie table with hundreds of dozens of cookies. What made this unique was that all the cookies on the table in the main room were light-colored pastel. All of the dark cookies were on a different table in the Ballroom. This was remarkable and a beautiful tribute to both the bride and groom  - the dark cookies were accompanied by the groom’s cake, the light cookies were accompanied by the white wedding cake.
